OATstanding Milk Made Easy

As a fan of oat/almond/cashew milks, I have spent a ton of (unnecessary) money on these alternative milks at grocery stores. Not only that, but all of these empty milk containers have ended up in recycling- contributing to more household waste for my family. After looking up some recipes, I saw how incredibly easy it is to make your own oat/almond/cashew/(any nut milk!) in your home, saving you a trip to the grocery store as well as excess containers in your waste bin. 

Here are the easy steps to make your homemade (and delicious) alternative milk:

***and I promise it’ll taste better knowing you saved money and created less waste making it!

  1. Combine 1 cup oats with 4 cups water into a blender

  2. Add a pinch of sea salt 

  3. I also add a splash of vanilla and a or 1 tbsp of maple syrup for sweetness but this step is optional

  4. Cover with lid and blend for about 45 seconds to a minute (don’t overblend)

  5. Pour mixture into a fine-mesh strainer

  6. Put in a glass jar or reusable container and enjoy for up to 4-5 days!

*This can easily be done using the same steps for nut milks- just make sure to soak the nuts overnight in cool water. I also recommend using a nut milk bag to strain these milks (unlike the oats).
